Description

The use of inorganic geochemical data obtained from sediment records using non-destructive XRF core scanning has become routine in lake and marine sediment research. These nearly continuous records reveal changes in sediment composition in great detail and allow reconstruction of changes in the aquatic environment and surface processes. This short course focuses on exploring and optimizing the information that can be obtained from XRF core scanning data using statistical applications.

This one-day course offers an introduction in the statistical analyses of inorganic geochemical data (Bertrand et al., 2024) and the Xelerate software for statistical exploration of XRF core-scanning data (Weltje et al., 2015). The course will focus on (1) Visualization of XRF results; (2) Calibration and sample selection; and (3) Multivariate data analyses. The course is limited to 25 applicants.
